I was wondering if it would be allowed to retrieve units using nanopods after each fight. Or must the three battles be fought non-stop, just pressing the rematch button?

I guess the "maximum one unit of each type" was trying to avoid that strong clan's players had too advantage over players on not so strong clans. Following this, preventing nano rush should never be approved.

(In my first 00N's tournament, we had this rule, but being all on the same clan that was not a problem)
